Christmas in Paris - Where to go ice skating in Paris in 2012

Ice skating (patinoire) in Paris is a great traditional that children and adults love to enjoy. Each year there are a number of temporary ice skating rinks which appear in different locations around Paris. The square in front of the Hôtel de Ville is generally the most popular, but this year the Grand Palais will be hosting a rink for the first time. The initial one to open is on the Champs Elysées on 16th November, the same time as the Christmas Market at the same location.

Hôtel de Ville

The largest temporary ice skating rink in Paris located in the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville. Free to access but small cost to rent ice skates (id required for renting). Gloves must be worn.

Open : 21st December until 17th March 2013
Opening Time : noon until 10pm all week (9am weekends)
Cost : Free but €5 to rent skates
Metro : Hôtel de Ville (Lines 1 or 11)

Grand Palais des Glaces

For the first time this year, the famous Grand Palais will be installing an ice rink in its historic building. On certain evenings there will be a light shows and DJ until 2am. Reservations can be made online to avoid queuing on the day from 14th November.

Open : 13th December until 6th January 2013
Opening Time Day : 10am until 7pm all week (except 24 & 31 Dec which is 6pm - check website calender)
Opening Time Evenings : 8pm until 2am (except 24 & 31 Dec - check website)
Cost :  €12 adults, €6 children under 12 years old (ice skate hire included). €20 evenings
Metro : Concorde (Lines 1, 8 or 12) or Champs Élysées Clemenceau (lines 1 or 13)


Avenue des Champs-Elysées

As part of the Christmas decorations and market on the Champs Elysées, a large ice rink will be installed. In addition, there will also be a synthetic ice rink made from Teflon for toddlers. Free to access but there is a rental cost for ice skates.

Open : 16th November until 6th January 2013
Opening Time : 11am until 11pm all week (midnight at weekends)
Cost :  €5 to €7
Metro : Concorde (Lines 1, 8 or 12) or Champs Élysées Clemenceau (lines 1 or 13)


Trocadéro on Ice

There is an ice skating rink in front of the Palais de Chaillot at Trocadéro with a great view of the Eiffel Tower as part of the Trocadero Christmas Village. The rink is a large 400 square metres.

Open : 13th December until 6th January 2013
Opening Time : 11am to 9pm
Cost : €5 for ice skate hire
Metro : Trocadéro (Lines 6 or 9)
