New Paris metro station opens on Saturday 23 March
On Saturday March 23, line 4 of the Paris metro inaugurates a new station which becomes the 303rd underground station in Paris. The new metro stop is to the south of Paris and will be the new terminus, serving the town of Montrouge.
The new station is called "Mairie de Montrouge" and it extends metro line 4 by a further 1.4km to the south of Porte d’Orléans. This journey is only 1 minute in duration and the time to reach Porte de Clignancourt in the north of Paris from Mairie de Montrouge is only 30 minutes. This becomes the 27th station on line 4 and will increase passenger numbers by 37,900. Line 4 is already the second busiest in Paris with daily passengers of 674,000. It will be interesting to see what affect these new passengers will have on an already busy line.
To celebrate the day of the inauguration, a program of events is being held on Saturday 23 March :
- 12pm : Official launch of the metro station in front of Saint-Jacques church
- Around 1pm : First train departure in the direction of Porte de Clignacourt
- 2pm : Festivities begin with demonstrations of hip hop and electro music by locals from Montrouge, a giant Zumba dance lesson, musicians, a PALI exhibition and much more.
